The program mails a free book to kids every month from birth to age five. However, for kids in a community to have access to this resource, one or more organizations must sponsor the program, which costs about $2 per child per month. When Annette Gardner heard about Imagination...
"It is impossible to please all the world and one's father." Jean de La Fontaine Fables (1668) Family owned ranches and farms demand a familial unity not found in most professions and trades. The quantity of work requires help from everyone, and hired labor is expensive. Decades back it was always the father/son who performed most of the jobs, but over time, women assumed a larger role in the operations. They still held themselves responsible for domestic work, they just...

The Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks is now formally recommending the introduction of free-roaming bison in Montana after the release of a long-awaited environmental impact statement. It's a move that dramatically intensifies conflict over wildlife management in Montana. And worse, it's a sobering message to the thousands of Montanans who provide habitat to wildlife. FWP has made clear it would rather advance the agenda of a radical, out-of-state environmental...
The other evening my wife and I were over at some friend's house for dinner. While there we watched the Mecum Auto auction for a while. It was exciting to see the cars and the action. Like many men, and women too, I enjoy really tricked-out, high performance muscle car from the 50's, 60's and early 70's. I also don't mind the older cars, and the newer exotic rocket ships from Europe and Japan that are out there. The talent and skill that people have to do the mechanical and co...

It was almost criminal. Behind the whole game, the Lincoln Lady Lynx decided to steal their way to a win in the Friday night away basketball game against the St. Regis Tigers. The varsity perp line-up featured Sophomores Alyvia Blotkamp with four steals and Jenna Templeton with five, abetted by Alexis Cannon with three grabbed balls and loud Lindsey Weisner with one steal. The squeaker win, 23 - 21, wasn’t secured until the last minutes of the fourth quarter, when the tough defense of Weisner and Andrea LaManna allowed B...
Getting off to a slow start, the 5th through 8th grade Little Lynx gals struggled to match up to the older, athletic Drummond junior high Trojan girls in a Jan. 18th Saturday morning basketball contest that ended in a loss for the Lincoln A-squad: 17 - 30. The team has mastered the dribble and one-on-one defense, but they are still tentative in driving to the hoop and going up for a shot with determination and aggressive force. Elbows were flying on both sides and the physicality of a tough opponent is slowly becoming more co...
The recent story about Hi Sign Brewing raised the question: what’s the origin of Hi Sign Road and its distinctive sign? Francis Beehler offered his recollection. In 1970, when the dump was moved, Beehler was covering over the old dump when a stack of barrel tops all stuck together rolled by him in the wind. He threw them in his truck and took them home. As folks had a hard time seeing the turn to what is now Hi Sign Road, Beehler painted the barrel tops, with the word “Hi” painted on the west side of the sign facing Lincoln a...
