Despite a Valentine's Day loss to the St. Regis Tigers, Nathan Brown had a remarkable night. In addition to passing a 1600 'career points' milestone, he also scored 48 points during the game, setting a new Lincoln High School record for points scored in a single game and beating a record set by his father and coach Shane Brown. During the game Brown shot 67 percent from the floor, which included sinking 8 of 12 three pointers. See pages 6 and 7 for Connie McCafferty's recap...

The enormity and beauty of Flathead Lake has captured the imagination of Montana residents for generations. As the largest freshwater lake in the western U.S. (outside of Alaska), it's no surprise that people have been asking and trying to answer questions about this body of water for a very long time. Flathead Lake Biological Station, located on the lake's east side, is the second-oldest research station in the U.S. Perched on the peninsula of Yellow Bay, the biological...
The Lincoln Senior Center celebrated Valentine’s Day on Friday with a special roast beef lunch. The original sign-up sheet had room for 30 attendees, but Senior Center Coordinator Diane Ironi increased the limit and had about 40 people arrive for lunch, gifts, and entertainment. Ironi said she hadn’t seen this large a response to a Senior Center event since the annual Christmas party lunch in December. Attendees were seated at tables and served roast beef, mashed potatoes, rolls, and apples and carrots. “It was really good,...
Dear Dietitian, I have been educating myself on healthy nutrition. There is a lot of conflicting information on the internet, and sometimes it's downright frustrating! Can you help steer me in the right direction? Thanks, Jim Dear Jim, Believe me, I share in your frustration in regards to nutrition information. The internet has brought nutrition information to our fingertips, but at least half of it is false or misleading. But rest assured, the truth is out there and, in many...

In some basketball games, everyone shows up testy: fans, refs and players. Friday, Feb. 14 was one of those nights. The contest between the Lynx and the St. Regis Tigers was a knock-down physical tussle right from the first whistle, and the no-nonsense officials did their best to try and keep some sense of order in the stands and on the court. They almost succeeded. The intense defense put three Lynx starters in foul trouble early. With Brodi Henderson, Ryan Greenwood and...
Friday night, Feb. 14, came up all hearts and flowers for the Lincoln Lady Lynx in their hard-fought win over the St. Regis Lady Tigers. The first period found the Lynx outscored and even the usual leaders couldn't make a basket. The St. Regis ladies were not a tall squad, but they were strong, athletic and accurate shooters. Frustration was thick in the air on the court and in the hometown stands. But, it was Senior Night after all and, in the end, it was the senior Lincoln...
Lincoln Public Schools introduced a new class this semester to manage the school's website. Four students will be working with technology teacher Laura Allen-Bullis to update and refresh the website and content. "The students are really excited to make it better," she said. The students have already begun work on the website. "We looked at Class C school websites and discussed what we liked and what we didn't, what we need and don't," said Allen-Bullis. The students really lik...
The Saturday morning tournament of multiple schools who brought their junior high teams to Lincoln had some new twists and turns for all the fans. Starting at 9 a.m., the teens running the concession stand made a land office business of selling donuts and maple bars out in the stands, and the eye-opening coffee was extra strong. The Lincoln Little Lynx A-team made the first bucket in the contest against the Fairfield junior high Eagles and Lincoln led all the way to the wire,...

Dear Editor: I watched the Prayer Breakfast and this is how I would have started it: “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we also have forgiventhoise who trespass against us.’ The word of the lord is good enough for me/ Nancy Pelosi, I forgive you and will never bring the impeachment up again. So let us move forward and make this a nation God would be proud of and the world env...
Democrats claim taxing the "rich" is the way to help the middle class and poor. That the rich get rich by taking wealth from others. Norm would have said "idiots"! Bill Gates and Paul Allen; worth Billions, created an operating system for computers enabling the average person computer operation. Millions use his product on phones, tablets, computers, etc. for personal and business use. Microsoft products and stock have created millions of jobs, businesses and many...
When he was just a young teenage schoolboy, George Washington sat down and copied out 110 "Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior." Many of these had to do with simple manners. "Cleanse not your teeth with the tablecloth, napkin, fork or knife," reads Rule 100. Good advice at any time. But the first rule the future president wrote down and followed for the rest of his life was especially notable: "Every action done in company, ought to be with some sign of respect to those that...
I just read a short article that made me think there is still some common sense and reasoning in the law chambers of Virginia. An AP article by Alan Suderman opened with this sentence, “Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s push to ban the sale of assault weapons failed on Monday after some of his fellow Democrats balked at the proposal.” Wow, I can hardly believe it. You may remember that just last month the gun owners of Virginia, and others converged on the capitol of the State to show their distaste for the governor’s insanit...
As the current license year is winding down, hunters and anglers can look for a few immediate changes for the coming year. The new license year starts on March 1, which means that is the day you can buy your 2020 hunting and fishing licenses and begin applying for permits and special licenses. The deadline to apply for deer and elk permits is April 1. Hunters should keep a couple of things in mind as they look to the application process for this year. First, this will be the...

A pair of incidents in the last month involving mountain lions in the Helmville area serves as a reminder that, while wolves and grizzlies may get the lion’s share of press, they’re not the only big carnivores around. The first call came Jan. 16, when personnel at Helmville School reported a dead deer hung up on a fence in the area. Lincoln-area Game Warden Ezra Schwalm found and removed the deer and followed lion tracks back to the road, where he lost them. He went to the school and asked them to give him a call back if the...
