    Jean Pocha, Contributing Writer|Updated Feb 23, 2021

As the snow piles up and the wind chill goes down, my thoughts turn to gardening. Hi, I'm Jean Pocha and have been learning from our vegetable garden in Helmville for the past 30 years. This time of year I really want some fresh veggies and that spurs me to start planning the garden. With seeds ordered in December, I've got all the "basics". Now I'm getting the calendar out and deciding when I can plant things where, and what that means about when to start some seeds in the...

At the time, doctors told his family he had a 50 percent chance of survival. Caden underwent numerous rounds of treatment to fight back, and eventually, he won his battle -- but not before the chemotherapy damaged his hearing. Now, the 12-year-old Bozeman boy is on his second pair of hearing aids, which, he told...

  • This is Montana: Gold Creek – A Montana Original

Ruth Little with Rick and Susie Graetz, U of M Office of Research and Creative Scholars|Updated Feb 23, 2021

Sixty miles east of Missoula on Interstate 90, at milepost 166, a highway marker shows an exit for Gold Creek. In the absence of signs designating this as a significant spot in Montana's chronicles, motorists zip by at 80mph without a thought of stopping. A southerly glance shows the peaceful ranch lands of the Clark Fork River Valley gradually ascending upward toward the Flint Creek Range's peaks. And just a bit east of the road into this small community of about 200 people,...

  • Op-Ed: Calling for a Convention of States

    Sen. Tom McGillvray - R, Mont. SD 23 Billings|Updated Feb 23, 2021

Last week the Montana Senate voted on a crucial measure to address the current fiscal crisis ongoing in Washington, D.C. Informed citizens know U.S. debt is now approaching $28 trillion. This does not count over $220 trillion of unfunded liabilities or the $4 trillion of planned deficit spending over the next 12 months by the current administration. The U.S. government currently borrows, or “prints” 48 cents of every dollar it spends. As a Republican state senator, it is unconscionable that massive deficit spending is now...

  • Op-Ed: The Case for Coa

    Sen. Duane Ankney - R, Mont. SD 20 Colstrip|Updated Feb 23, 2021

For over twenty years, I've worked with many key industry leaders, stakeholders, state officials, and the past two presidential administrations on developing energy policy. Montana has always been a resource-rich, energy-blessed state. But now we are at an inflection point. We either choose to reap the benefits of the resources and infrastructure we have in place to keep energy prices low, produce Made in America energy, and keep the lights and heat on in Montana homes. Or we...

  • Making the most

    Tammy Jordan|Updated Feb 23, 2021

When it comes to life, I’m one of those live it to the limit kind of folks. I have things I want to do, places I want to go, dreams and aspirations to attain, and the type of person I want to be and become. I can’t get there by sitting on the sidelines – and I can’t get there by running myself ragged either. Making the most of life and living it to what you consider the fullest is so different for everyone. While I say I like to live it to the limit, I’m not talking about dra...
