Dante Filpula Ankney, Community News Service UM School of Journalism|Updated Oct 28, 2020

Now, both Democrat Shane Morigeau and Republican Troy Downing are stressing how important the job is to protect Montanans and grow the economy. The position oversees the insurance and the securities industries in Montana; enforcing laws, licensing companies to practice in Montana, and...

Although most ballots should safely reach voters at their homes, it's possible some may be late or missing. • Initiative seeks to 'clean up' rules around ballot access

Emma Smith, Community News Service UM School of Journalism|Updated Oct 21, 2020

Over the past few elections, Montanans have voted to change the rules around medical marijuana, sought to impose a crime victim's bill of rights and changed how absentee ballots can be collected. All these issues required a specific number of voter signatures to land on the ballot and now that rule is, itself, on the ballot. This year voters will decide whether to return the language in Article XIV, Section IX and Article III, section IV of the Montana Constitution back to...

News Release, Alzheimers Association - Montana Chapter|Updated Oct 20, 2020

If an apple a day can keep the doctor away, what will a flu vaccine get you? The answer may be better health today and improved odds of maintaining your brain power in the future. The risks posed by the flu are pretty self-evident for older adults. Last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Pre-vention (CDC) reported that 35.5 million people in the U.S. contracted the flu, resulting in 34,200 deaths. Of those fatalities, about 75 percent were among people over age 65. While we’re waiting on the COVID-19 vaccine… And the...

Aiden Morton, Community News Service UM School of Journalism|Updated Oct 8, 2020

If Montana's campaign for the state's lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives seems familiar, it's because both candidates have been here before. Democrat Kathleen Williams of Bozeman lost a House race just two years ago to Congressman Greg Gianforte, and the consequences of that defeat still rankle, she said. "It's been incredibly frustrating to see the lack of leadership and representation, frankly," said Williams, a former state legislator, about Gianforte's actions...
