Twenty four hours after a tough defeat against Drummond, the spunky junior high Lynx ran out on the home court for another lop-sided match-up against the Prospectors from Philipsburg. Trever Tolan, the 5-foot, 9-inch forward on the older players' "A" team was the tallest Lynx wearing green and white. The opposing Prospectors had several tall timbers including 6-foot 2" Kai O'Donnell, a stocky and experienced eighth grader. From the opening tip off, it looked like it was going...
Junior high games, especially at the beginning of the season, can be a combination of mass pandemonium and falling-down frustration as every player on the court grabs for the elusive ball. On the other hand, local fans see glimpses of future greatness in the youngsters as they watch their boys dribble the full court, make lay-up baskets and execute coach's offensive plays. Every Lynx player was tuned up to show Mom and Dad what they are learning in practice. "Learning" being...
An assembly at Lincoln School provided the administration with a perfect time to honor Gwyn and Scott Jensen for their volunteer work at the school for the last two years. The Jensens, from Helena, wrapped up a two-year mission for their church during which they volunteered at Lincoln School two days a week to help Lincoln Elementary School teachers with everything from math and reading to teaching kids to tie their shoes. Scott said the recognition, which included crowns for...
The 2018 season closed Oct. 5 and 6 for the Lynx junior high school boys after exciting contests against Hot Springs and St. Regis. Despite having only six players suited up for the away game against the Hot Springs "Savage Heat" squad, the tough Lincoln gridders had a close match and lost by just four points, 40-44. There were no relief players waiting on the bench to give the Lynx starters a breather, but according to Coach Kara Demptster, the team was still playing their...
"You can't tackle your mom!" Isn't a phrase you hear at a typical football game, but last Saturday's flag football game between alumni, staff and parents and the high school and junior high football teams was anything but typical. After a disappointing and injury-filled football season that ended with the Lynx forfeiting the remainder of their season, the school staff decided they needed to do something to give the players a proper close to the season. "Kids were disappointed...
Varsity volleyball coach Stacey Mannix, all smiles after the three and out victory over the St. Regis Lady Tigers Saturday night, said, "This team is singing their song again." The last set was a close call and the score was tied up seven times coming down the home stretch, but the Lincoln ladies never sank into singing the Blues. The fans were hoarse from yelling, but the experienced juniors and seniors of the varsity squad just kept pounding the volleyball over the net,...
The JV Saturday afternoon contest started off with a come-from-behind win in the first set, but fell in the following match ups: 25-21, 17-25, 13-15 and 7-15. In past years, the Lady Lynx have not always had enough players to field a JV squad, so this bunch of Freshman and Sophomore gals bodes well for the varsity who will graduate four seniors from the team in the spring. Outstanding JV hitters were Andrea LaManna who had four of the team's six kills and Alle Russ who had...

Coming out strong - it was “Homecoming Spirit Week” after all - the junior high ladies from Lincoln eked out a win in the first set that was punctuated by a thrilling spike at the net by sev...
This last week has been an eventful one for the Lincoln Lady Lynx, and it looks to continue for the next few weeks. October began with a celebration of pink. This is where a team honors cancer survivors and involves the school by inviting everyone to wear pink on a certain day. Our team chose Wednesdays in October for their pink days. Along with being involved during the week the team chose two community members to honor in their fight with cancer. Before the varsity...
In a special meeting last week, the Lincoln School Board revisited a change to the school's cell phone and digital device policy that went into effect this year and aligned the school's Technology Agreement with the high school handbook. At the regular September meeting, Student Council President Carly Templeton brought forward concerns that the rule prohibiting such devices from classrooms had an adverse effect on the ability of some students, particularly seniors, to complet...
When the Lincoln volleyball court sports a home game with neighboring Seeley Lake Blackhawks, the visitors section for spectators is packed with plenty of out-of-town fans who root for their team at the top of their voices. The roar is intimidating for the opposing Lynx ladies but even scarier is the No. 1 spot the Blackhawks hold in District 13 C. A young Lynx squad, made up of mostly freshman, came out bravely and did their best for Coach Angela Krier, but the game was a...
Still recovering from the flu, 6-foot junior Alexis Cannon was 80 percent her old self as she rocketed six serving aces across the net to the waiting Seeley Lake Blackhawks on Thursday night. Cannon just moved to Lincoln last year and is still honing her skills as the tall tower of the team. Experienced senior Maggie Jorgenson was on track with her usual intensity and fierce play, flying into the floor for digs and scoring on seven of her serves. Reliable setter, senior Carly...

The suspensions came on the heels of a series of injuries that sidelined several of the team's players in recent weeks. In addition to the spinal injury suffered by Joey Weiderhold during the game against White Sulphur Springs, the team lost players this season to concussions and ankle injuries. The...

As part of the effort to turn around the failing junior High school math scores that played a role in the Lincoln Junior High's accreditation downgrade to "Advice," the Lincoln School District made a significant change to their math curriculum for K-8 students. This year Lincoln Elementary students bid farewell to Every Day Math, which the school adopted in 2013 to align with the state-mandated Common Core standards. The new program, Ready Math, also aligns with Common Core...

If you walk into the third-grade class at Lincoln School you will probably see a face familiar to a lot of Lincoln residents. Wiederhold's mother, Jen reported he's in good spirits and though the injury brought an end to his playing ball...

She then found her way back to Helmville for her student teaching and her first teaching position. "I think I always knew I would be a teacher." Hillerman said "My mother has inspired me to become a teacher." Hillerman's mother and sister are also teachers. In...
Parents had the chance to meet their kids' teachers, get an idea of what the student's will be learning in the upcoming school year and enjoy a meal at this year's Lincoln Public School Open house. It had been a challenge to get parents to make it to the annual open house at the beginning of the school year, due in part to the fact they're scheduled between 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. That is until they opted to add a meal. "We tried a number of different things to bring parents in so...
Annette Gardner, who took on a new position as Lincoln Public School's reading coach this year, also sported a new look at the school open house Thursday afternoon. Decked out - and nearly unrecognizable - in a platinum blond wig and other, shall we say, enhancements, Gardner was promoting a new effort to sign up young children for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. A book gifting program, it mails free, age appropriate books for kids from birth through the age of 5,...

Alexis Cannon puts her 6-foot height to good use at the net with 5-foot-7-inch Tanea Reisch,...
Junior Nathan Brown led the Lincoln Lynx as they scored 44 points, seven touchdowns and two extra points, in their tough-as-nails fight with the visiting Sheridan Panthers on a beautiful fall afternoon last Saturday. The next Lynx score was a pass from Brown to Aziah Blotkamp to tie up the game, but then the Panthers answered, going on a four touchdown jag...
