Backed up by an exceptionally skilled 'B' team, the 7th and 8th grade ladies on the 'A' team showed their stuff by pulling out a win in the first set, 25 – 22, against Seeley. Ahead for most of the set, the Lady Little Lynx saw the Black Hawks roar back and almost take the win away fro...
They were great once, long ago. With dreams of past high school victories dancing like sugar plums in their memories, the Lincoln alums who took the football field Saturday night, Oct. 15 expected to romp over their younger and slimmer sons and nephews on the current Lincoln Lynx JV squad. After all, they had been champions in 'The Day' ! And to make sure none of the old Glory Days players became seriously injured, the contest was Flag Football, not the rough and tumble...
With determination and a good attitude, the hometown Lady Lynx ran onto the court ready to play hard in their rematch with the Drummond Lady Trojans. After a recent away game loss to the Trojans the Lincoln gals were anxious to get a win and even up the competition. However, a cold start in the first two sets, 12 - 25, 8 - 25, gave the Lynx ladies a steep hill to climb, even though the volleys were long and very competitive. As usual Jess Zarske, Kylee Copenhaver and Sophomore...
A home volleyball match against the visiting Alberton Panthers on Friday, Sept. 23 demonstrated a shining lesson in compassion and sportsmanship to the young ladies from the Clark Fork Valley. Winning in three quick sets, 25-17; 25-23; 25-22; the Lynx gals and their coaches showed the crowd what a class act they are by subbing in all their new 5th and 6th grade players in the second and third sets, giving the inexperienced junior high Panthers a chance to even the score and...
The Drummond Lady Trojans came to Lincoln on Sept. 10 to face the Lincoln junior high Lady Lynx volleyball squad. After a five-set slug fest, the Drummond Trojan wooden horse had captured the cats by two points in the fifth set. So close, but no cigar. Playing with strength and confidence, Lincoln battled hard and the result was up in the air until the very end: 23-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23 and 15-17. Coaches Dani Fry and Cailey DenBoer had a nice bench of middle school ladies...
Coming off a convincing win against Gardner last Saturday, the young Lincoln Lynx football men felt confident going into their Thursday, Sept. 8 match up against the Great Falls Central High junior varsity. Even though there were only six eligible Lincoln players for this game, our freshmen and sophomore gridiron squad (with one junior) was fired up for the contest. The Lincoln Lynx are required by the MHSA to play a JV schedule this year because the Lynx had to cancel some...
The Lincoln volleyball season kicked off with a visit from the Granite Lady Prospectors from Philipsburg Thursday, Sept. 1. Freshman veteran Makenna Copenhaver said the team was "super anxious to play before the hometown crowd," and was fighting first game jitters, reflected in their 9 - 25 loss. But the experienced squad settled down into a rhythm for the next two matches, showing a lot of intense focus and calm "get-it-done" resolve. Playing without their strong senior,...
With only one day to rest from their pounding by Granite, the Lincoln Lady Lynx fired themselves up to face visiting Seeley Lake, who showed up Saturday, Sept. 3 with seven seniors and a full bench of lower classmen. Whew! Time to dig deep. The Lincoln squad has high expectations for their season and each hitter is, as they said, "all in." Courage was the word of the day. The Blackhawks are always contending for the top spot in the 13-C conference and their swagger is well...
Valley Christian Eagles varsity men had a tough game against the Lincoln Lynx Friday Feb. 4 and it would have been an evenly matched contest except for a Valley Christian senior named Becker, who scored half of the Eagle points all by himself. The Lynx men were only two points behind in the second quarter, but their brave and courageous play could not keep up with Becker who could score from NBA range. Teegan Tybo was top man with 14 points followed by Andrew Brown with 13...
Finally, a home bench of five players vs. an opposing team of five. It was going to be a match game, after all. The junior varsity players from both teams were young and energetic. The Lincoln Lynx J.V, when called up to bolster the varsity, are used to fighting it out with juniors and seniors who out-weigh and tower over them. Now the young Lincoln men had opponents in the Granite Prospectors who were more in their weight division. In the low scoring, big D game, the fierce...
O how the mighty have fallen. Rolling into Lincoln on Friday, Feb. 4, the Valley Christian Eagle ladies from Missoula are used to cruising to victory against Lincoln. Laughingly, one member of the visiting team said to the Lynx coach, "We'll try not to run up the score against you too much." New coach Ray Campos may not have been here when those past massacres happened, but he knew a great motivational opportunity when it came along. Relating the Eagles taunt to his team in...
It could be the pep bands, the gathering of seven high school basketball teams, the media cameras and reporters or the plethora of goodies at the food court. "Tournament time" is like a winter vacation in Sports World. A special vibe and excitement is in the air for both athletes and fans. Who you play in your first game depends on the record accumulated during the season and both Lincoln Lynx men and ladies had a difficult draw. The Lincoln gals came the closest to a win...

In a varsity vs. junior varsity match-up, the younger, less-experienced players have to climb a steep mountain. But the hometown Lynx men don't even have a full component of high school players. Two of their most talented shooters, Kayden Riddle and Roegun Dietz, are only in eighth grade! The Victor Pirates, starting seniors and juniors who average 5-foot, 10-inches and 150 pounds, made intimidating opponents Feb. 12. A fan did not need to be a fortune teller to see the outcom...
"I wanted to make a banner that said 'We're back' on the front of the school," Dave Sitch, coordinator of the Pete Sitch Memorial Co-ed Basketball Tournament said. "It feels awesome." The tournament returned this year after being canceled in in both 2020 and 2021, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. The two-year absence had Sitch wondering if it could make a comeback. "I was concerned about teams and people, but as soon as I got word out that we were good to go, we filled up just...
At a rodeo, the stars of the show tend to be the bull and bronc riders, the ropers, steer wrestlers and barrel racers. The bullfighters, who dodge bucking bulls to help riders, also draw a lot of eyeballs. But it may be easy to overlook pickup men like Pete White and Jesse Johnston, who every year play a vital role in pulling off a safe and entertaining Lincoln Rodeo. "If you don't notice us, we're doin' our job," said White, who has been picking up the Lincoln rodeo for 19 ye...
