Roberson retires from job at Ranger District

After four and a half years as the front desk person at the Lincoln Ranger district, Lisa Roberson retired from her position last week.

Roberson, who has been battling Huntingtons disease for the past several years, bid farewell to a job that made her the face of the Lincoln Ranger District for locals looking for information or a conversation with a staff members, and for visitors stopping in to check out the Lincoln Grizzly.

"A lot of people walk through the door and expect to see a live grizzly," Roberson said. "You have to tell them no, there are no live grizzlies here."

Lincoln District Ranger Michael Stansberry said she was particularly adept at dealing with the sometimes irate folks who came in to pick a bone about something or another. "She'd calm anyone down once they came in and talked to her," he said.

"We just love Lisa," said Moe Geary, the District's Range & Weed Technician. "She's just been wonderful to us here."

She said Roberson handled her job with style and grace.

"Her health has changed quite a bit, but she never gave up," Geary said. "She just kept working and working. She'd drive herself every day - a major accomplishment - and she's very good to the people."

Roberson, who described herself as a woman of few words, said she loved her job at the district.

"Everyone is wonderful to me out here," she said. "It made it easy to stay as long as I've been here. Everyone treats me wonderfully here."
