A Lewis and Clark County excavator operator scoops gravel during a project to install two culverts on Stemple Pass Road Saturday afternoon.
Crews install the first culvert at Humbug Creek Thursday May 10.
Even with rip rap to divert water, the culvert at Humbug Creek didn't shunt enough water to prevent the washout.
New culverts Installed on Stemple Pass Road allow water from the east side of the road to drain, putting an end to the water that had been pouring across the road and creating a washout.
Since the two newest culverts were put in place, the county has rebuilt the washed out area and re-opened the road.
