Musician and TDR rider Ben Weaver performing "music For Free" in Ovando

In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route Trail, and in recognition of Ovando as the 2018 Montana Community of the Year for Tourism and Recreation, cyclist and bluegrass musician Ben Weaver is hosting a free concert June 15 at the Stray Bullet from 7-8:30(ish) p.m.

For anyone wishing to make an evening of it, Leigh Ann and Fred Valiton will be selling barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers at the Blackfoot Commercial Company and Jean Pocha will have baked goods on hand from 5-7p.m.

Following Weaver's performance, local musician Aidin Kloetzl will keep the music going with a performance for the crowd.

If you plan to go, be sure to bring your own seating or blankets for the performance.

Weaver, who is known for riding his bicycle on with his guitar and banjo strapped to it, is taking part in this year's Tour Divide Mountain Bike Race, which follows the GDMBR. As part of his trip he has planned 15 concerts along the route to thank local communes for their support of the mountain bike route.

Riding with weaver is filmmaker Keenan Deplanks, who is documenting the Weaver's "Music For Free" ride. In a promotional trailer for the film about the ride, Weaver said the goal is to highlight something he feels is often overlooked in "adventure films" about athletes overcoming challenges: the people they meet along the way.

"In the end, mountain vistas and overcoming physical challenges is inspiring, but not as inspiring as listening to a stranger tell their story and in it, hearing your own," he said in the trailer.
