Saturday had a sports event for everyone in Lincoln, where action could be found on both the football field and the volleyball court.
Despite the three and out set score, Coach Stacey Mannix was pleased with the 85 percent serve success of her varsity squad including several aces by Maggie Jorgensen, the energetic senior hitter who high jumps when she pounds the ball over the net.
Alexis Cannon puts her 6-foot height to good use at the net with 5-foot-7-inch Tanea Reisch, making a Berlin Wall when their arms are raised to block shots from the Mountain Cats.
Mannix praised her team for "having the best defensive coverage of any match this year".
Junior setter Sage Kamps said the team has been working on improving communication and covering for each other when a player is out of position.
The Lynx put 11 kills and seven blocks in the stat books. The current weight lifting program to add strength to the ladies was evident as several of the serves sailed past the line judges into the cafeteria hallway. Sage Kamps said that the adrenaline rush of the competition also adds to the long balls, "Something we have to learn to control."
For a small school, the Lynx are putting an unusually big team on the floor this season. Fourteen ladies suited up for the junior varsity and varsity games with some sophomores and juniors playing in both games.
