The Blackfoot Valley's News Source Since 1980
This last week has been an eventful one for the Lincoln Lady Lynx, and it looks to continue for the next few weeks.
October began with a celebration of pink. This is where a team honors cancer survivors and involves the school by inviting everyone to wear pink on a certain day. Our team chose Wednesdays in October for their pink days. Along with being involved during the week the team chose two community members to honor in their fight with cancer.
Before the varsity volleyball game, Saturday, Oct. 6, the girls' volleyball team presented Bill Whittenberg with a pink volleyball signed with notes of encouragement. They chose him as their focus for the fight against cancer as he is the father of their teammate, Maya Whittenberg. The ceremony honoring him was very emotional and many commented on what a nice idea, and what a nice group of girls. Of course, I had to agree as this group of girls has made it an enjoyable fall while coaching them.
The girls also presented a signed volleyball to Wendi Dietz, who ivercame breastcancer this year.
This group is also very involved in fundraising this year as we have had to replace some uniforms, and buy some meals. We would like to show everyone the beautiful quilt that was built for us by Darcy Jorgensen. She spent a great deal of time and energy making sure we had something to raffle off to help with our season fundraising. We hope to sell at least 250 tickets to make it worth her time. Our hope is that the community will support our girls in this endeavor. The tickets may be purchased from any volleyball player or coach for $5 each or five tickets for $20.
Along with thanking Darcy, we have several parents to thank for their support this year.
The Cannon's, who purchased Bushwhackers, have provided a sack lunch for each player on away games. This is helpful since we do not have to stop on the way to games and each player has a meal.
I would also like to thank Joanie Templeton for her pregame meal and going to each away game and keeping our book for us. It relieves a great amount of stress to know it is so aptly being cared for.
On that note, thank you to Emily Rundell for consistently being at home games and taking on the chore of books there.
Our school staff is also to thank for the endless hours of running clock, Laura Allen-Bullis, line judging, Carol Williams, Derek Perez, Ann Ross, and Carla Anderson. There are many more who need to be thanked, also.
I would like to thank the parents who have helped feed the team, get them to practice, and watch from the stands. Where would we be without our faithful fans?
