The Blackfoot Valley's News Source Since 1980
Twenty four hours after a tough defeat against Drummond, the spunky junior high Lynx ran out on the home court for another lop-sided match-up against the Prospectors from Philipsburg.
Trever Tolan, the 5-foot, 9-inch forward on the older players' "A" team was the tallest Lynx wearing green and white. The opposing Prospectors had several tall timbers including 6-foot 2" Kai O'Donnell, a stocky and experienced eighth grader. From the opening tip off, it looked like it was going to be a long night.
Andrew Brown summed up this situation when he said last season, "No matter what, you just go out there and do your best."
The junior Lynx have a winning attitude even though the score, 14-61, would test the confidence and build the character of every Lincoln player.
Scoring leaders in the "A" game were Andrew Brown with seven points, Walker Young, four points and Wesson Dempster with three points. Dempster and Young each had three rebounds and Logan Joyce jumped out of his socks for two rebounds.
The "B" game of the younger players was a little less organized as the junior Lynx yelled to one another who should be covering which Granite man, sometimes with a little help from their parents in the stands. Fifth grader Cameron McDonough and sixth grader Noah Barnett had three hard-fought rebounds apiece, and Roegun Dietz pulled down five rebounds and two steals. Scoring leaders in the 9-26 loss were Brown with seven points and Tahvo Lattin with two points.
Wesson Dempster, when asked what he liked best about basketball said, "Well, Lincoln is a small town. Ya gotta keep busy."
Lincoln may be the smallest school in the western 13-C, but we also may have some players with the biggest hearts.
