Community Hall Cleanup

The Community Halls annual clean-up is a significant undertaking, with a to-do list covering about two pages. Doug Vulcan, who has been volunteering for the clean up for the last four years, said part of the trick to maximizing volunteer efforts is to break tasks down into small chunks that don’t seem overwhelming.

Cleaning the walls of the century-old building may look fairly straightforward, but Vulcan said it can present a challenge. He said the first year he helped clean the walls he spent most of his time pulling staples and old nails out of the logs.

“It is convenient to have an old building like this, where if you have to tack something in you can, but you don’t want abuse it,” Vulcan said, adding that there are quite a few permanent hangars mounted to the walls people can use for decorating the hall.

Hall Treasurer Renee Lundberg admitted they weren’t likely to get everything on the list done in one weekend, even with the number of people who pitched in.

"It’s just a big building. And its old,” she said.
