Lincoln Loggers wrestling team takes second at state

The Lincoln Loggers wrestling team placed second for small teams, and 11th overall, at the Central Montana Little Guy Wrestling tournament in Lewistown, Saturday, March 23, scoring a team total of 58 points.

Among the kids younger than 10, Elijah Barnett brought home a 1st place win in the 10 and under 57-pound weight class. Likewise, Ray Ortega, in the 8 and under, 54C weight class, also placed first in his division. The 1st place wins earned 10 points each for the Lincoln team.

Garret Schwalm in the 6 and under 46B class and Miles Greany in the 8 and under 58B, each earned 2nd place spots, adding 7 points each to the team total. Mathew Brown and Henry Smith added a combined 10 points to the team score. Four-year old Brown took 3rd in the 6 and under 37B weight class with wins in three of his four matches, while Smith won four of five matches to place 3rd in 6 and under 52B.

Among the older boys, Roegun Dietz scored seven points with a second-place win in the 12 and under 122-pound class, while Andrew Brown, who changed brackets after being the only wrestler in his original weight class, likewise earned seven points with a second place win in the 12 and under 130/140-pound class.

The Judith Basin Tri-Cities team, with 15 wrestlers, took 1st place among small teams. Last weekend's tournament included 13 small teams, which are defined as having 15 or fewer wrestlers.
