Sculpture in the Wild recognized with 2019 Heritage and Cultural Tourism award

Blackfoot Pathways: Sculpture in the Wild earned recognition as the winner of Montana's 2019 Heritage and Cultural Tourism award.

The Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development announced the award at the Governor's Conference on Tourism & Recreation in Butte Monday night, April 15.

Sculpture in the Wild faced competition for the prize from the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena and Libby's Kootenai Country Montana Chainsaw Carving Championship.

"We know Sculpture in the Wild is a wonderful place, and it's exciting to be recognized by a statewide tourism award. We expect this award will help build the momentum of visitors to the park, and to the Upper Blackfoot Valley," members of the Sculpture in the Wild board of directors who attended the Award Ceremony said in a joint statement.

Last week, BPSW President Becky Garland told the Lincoln Valley Chamber of Commerce that an estimated 20-30 nomination letters for the award were sent to the Governor's Office of Tourism and Recreation from fans of the sculpture park as far away as Germany and Ireland, as well as from California, New York and throughout Montana.

Sculpture in the Wild saw an estimated 30,000 visits throughout last year, and has a full slate of activities planned for this summer from July through the end of September.

Beginning July 4th, the Back Adit Band is slated to perform at the first event of the Music in the Wild summer music series in the Teepee Burner. The series continues every Thursday at 7 p.m with performances by Andrea Crossguns, Jos Farmer and Chuck Fulcher, the series wraps up Aug. 1 with the Steve Gores Ensemble.

Shakespeare in the Wild is on tap Aug 8, and a week later Rick Graetz returns to the Teepee burner with his 'This is Montana' presentation and the Café Night fundraiser is set to return Sept. 21.

This year's Artist in Residence program features Norway's Stuart Ian Frost and Allison Stigora of Pennsylvania. They will be creating new installations from Sept. 9-28.
