Tickling the Ivories

Six Lincoln students ranging from 3rd to 6th grade played some piano tunes for the senior citizens Wednesday afternoon, while the 3rd grade class attended the recital to lend a supporting ear.

The students made the walk over from the school to the Lincoln Senior Center and performed a continual flow of songs to strengthen their performing skills for the upcoming Piano Recital, scheduled for Saturday, June 1 at 1 p.m. at the Lincoln Community Methodist Church.

Not all the young pianists could to take time away from school to entertain the senior citizens, but music teacher Melissa Gilbert was really excited to get a few students over there to play. "I always encourage the kids to perform. It gives them a good reward for all their practice and a goal to reach," she said. "The kids always look forward to playing for the center because they are so welcoming as well as forgiving!"

In addition to the June 1 recital, other upcoming music events include the Pre-K-6th grade Spring Concert in the school gymnasium Wednesday, May 15 at 7p.m., and the 7th-12th grade concert at the Methodist Church Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m.

All the performances are open to the public.
