Customers begin to gather at the first Lincoln Farmers Market Friday afternoon, June 7.
Karen Crawford of Carter (right), owner of 406 Ferments, brought her homemade sauerkraut to Lincoln. "I was so excited you guys had a Farmers market," she said. "I just had to be here." Crawford said her grandparents, Pearl and Bill Ludeman, took care of Hooper Park in the late 1960's.
Fifth grade teacher Stacey Mannix works her "other job," handling Mannix Beef sales at the Farmer's Market.

The first Lincoln Farmers Market, organized by Envision Lincoln members, received a warm welcome Friday, June 7 as community members showed up to check out the latest bi-weekly event in town.
Shoppers seemed to enjoy the small but varied selection of vendors, as well as the live music and food offered at the event.
But, like any inaugural event, it hit a few rough spots.
Some patrons were unhappy that the event is enforcing Health Department regulations against dogs at such events (an issue highlighted when a dog peed on one vendors merchandise.)
Likewise, fresh produce wasn't on the menu as expected. Gaines Produce, the only produce vendor for the first event, suffered a breakdown en route to Lincoln. The produce company plans to be at the future Farmers Markets here, however.
Regardless of those issues, one patron said they're sure it will be a success since it provides a new and different event for Friday nights in Lincoln.
The Lincoln Farmers Market is scheduled for the first and third Fridays of every month through Sept. 6, from 4-8 p.m.
