Lincoln Fiber Circle to resume meetings

Beginning in September, the Lincoln Fiber Circle will begin to meet again at the Lincoln Branch of the Lewis & Clark Library.

Gatherings are scheduled for the second Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the exception of October, which meets the first Saturday due to the Tour of the Arts event that always falls on the second weekend in October. Participants are welcome to bring a snack to share with others, but it is not required.

The Fiber Circle is open to all who participate in some type of fiber craft, whether it’s sewing, knitting, quilting, crocheting, felting, tatting, weaving or spinning. Folks who want to learn more about any of those crafts are also welcome to join each month. The group, which began meeting last year, had about five ladies who came regularly each month, with others joining in on other months.

“It was fun seeing a group of people with different fiber interests gather together with a common thread. There were also a couple of ladies who came and just watched while having fun and meaningful conversations with one another,” said Tammy Jordan, who formed the group gatherings last year.

“Even though Lincoln is a small town, there were people meeting people for the first time and building friendships,” She added. “There were also old friends who would come, and while they were there, they talked about their lives, their projects, and the goings on in town. To me the group is more than just fiber, it’s creating connections in a small town and giving folks the outlet to learn, to gather, to be creative, and to have fun.”

Jordan formed the group as a way to give back to a community she loves. When she moved here in 2009, the Fiber Guild, as it was called then, was one of the first groups she joined, and where her continued love of crocheting, fiber, and spinning grew. She enjoyed learning something new from others and appreciates the lasting friendships she made there.

Jordan feels it is important to continue that tradition as Lincoln moves forward.

This year, she hopes to grow the group to include some local youth, and to have some educational “field trips” in conjunction with other fiber, spinning, and weaving guilds throughout the state.

The group meets from September through May. The first meeting is set for Saturday, Sept. 14.
