The hometown Lincoln Lady Lynx have a special game face for the Seeley Swan Lady Blackhawks, a grudge-match face saved for our closest area rivals.
Since Seeley Lake is only 45 miles away, the "opponents" bleachers are always filled with very loud Seeley fans and the atmosphere is electric. On Saturday night, Oct. 19 the Lincoln crowd was also out in full force to see the last game of the 2019 season and to honor the senior players on "Senior Night."
The Junior Varsity sets were all close and the contest was not decided until the bitter end. The first four sets went back and forth, 25-27, 25-20,14-16, 15-13.
Lindsey Weisner had a critical kill and a block in set IV which gave momentum to the Lynx ladies and propelled them up toward the win.
The tiebreaker set was half way through when senior Maya Whittenberg slammed a ace serve at 9-9 and followed that up with a successful dig. But Seeley managed to get the serve and kept making their points until the Blackhawk victory at 11-15.
Despite being outnumbered by the Blackhawks, the scrappy and tough Lynx ladies played Seeley to a tie and just lost by a hair.
The Lincoln fans had a right to be proud of their young team. Freshman Jessica Zarske put up six set-assists, Jaylin Lewenight contributed two kills and two digs, and perfect serving was achieved by Ivy Corrigan and Lindsey Weisner.
