Varsity Lady Lynx fall to Seeley Swan

After an exhilarating win the night before, a tough cross-neighborhood match with the Seeley Swan Lady Blackhawks Saturday, Oct. 19 proved to be too much exertion for the Lincoln Lady Lynx.

The final scores, 15-25, 18-25 and 18-25 weren't posted without a lot of Lynx blood, sweat and tears. The tears came before the games started when the four seniors on the varsity volleyball squad were honored with their parents, family and friends.

Shane Smith, Assistant Athletic Director, called each senior forward and announced their future plans after graduation. It seemed to really hit the ladies hard; tears flowed when they realized that their lives as carefree youths would soon be ending and the scary world of adulthood was just around the corner.

The Lady Lynx were behind in every set but they never gave up. Tall Towers Alexis Cannon and Andrea LaManna had dueling kill and block contests with their counterparts across the net and together they racked up 15 kills and two blocks for the Lady Lynx.

One shocking event was seeing junior Nikki Snyder take a kill shot right to her face. The volleyball ricocheted off Snyder and continued in play as her teammates managed to swat it back over the net. No foul. Apparently a player can hit the ball with her face if it is an incidental action, (not recommended).

Senior Sage Kamps made fifteen set-assists and had several athletic saves as the ball headed into the stands only to be sent back in play by a flying Kamps. No fans were harmed in this event but those who sit on the lower bleachers may be risking life and limb.

Jenna Templeton and Alexis Cannon served with 90 percent accuracy; Snyder and Cannon had two aces and five digs each.

The last two regular matches of the season will the at Victor Oct. 24, and in Charlo on Oct. 25.

Western 13C District Tournament action begins in Missoula on Oct.31st. No Trick or Treating for the Lady Lynx this year.
