Upcoming board elections and Skijor Lincoln were the main topics discussed at the Dec. 12 meeting of the Lincoln Valley Chamber of Commerce.
With the resignation of one director and terms for two other directors coming to an end, the Chamber is still seeking to fill empty seats.
Normally, the board consists of seven seated directors, but has been running on less than that for this past year. Although there are three new individuals running for some of the open positions, an additional two members are needed to complete the seven-person board. New directors will be voted in after the first of the year. Candidates should have ideas for moving the Chamber forward and for working more with local businesses to support local economy. Anyone interested in running for a Chamber director seat should contact a current board member to be considered.
The fourth annual Skijor Lincoln, scheduled for the weekend of Jan. 18-19, is quickly approaching.
Like last year, one of the main ingredients for the event's success is snow, something Lincoln doesn't have a lot of at the moment. Last year, the community came together to move snow to the field where the event is held. The Chamber is hoping for more snow before that time comes.
To help make the event possible, and to bring people into town during the often slow winter months, the Chamber is seeking sponsorships to develop the purse for competitors. Planning for the event is moving forward, but the chamber has gotten only a fraction of the sponsorships needed to host the event. Any person or business interested in supporting the event with sponsorships can contact current board members Laurie Richards, Greg Smith, Bob Weatherston, Tammy Jordan, Emilee Rivera or Erin Dey.
They are also looking for the assistance of volunteers to help with set-up, breakdown, and various duties throughout the weekend. Help for Saturday and Sunday are both needed. Those interested in volunteering should contact Erin at the BVD office.
Another item the Chamber is looking to complete before SkiJor Lincoln is the installation of a permanent culvert on the property west of town belonging to the Cyr family, where the event is held. The Cyr family allows the Chamber to use the property for the event. The board voted to pay the $150 permit fee to move forward with the installation of the culvert and plans to have it in place before the start of the event.
In addition to board vacancies and the Skijoring event, the LVCC Board disussed the Montana Main Street project and the Ponderosa Snow Warriors February Fun Run. More information on those items will be discussed at upcoming meetings.
The next Chamber meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the community room at the Lincoln Library. Community members are always welcome and encouraged to attend.
