Bouncing back from a Friday night defeat in Augusta, Lincoln's varsity Lady Lynx cruised to an easy 31-18 victory over Valley Christian in front of an appreciative hometown crowd Saturday, Feb. 7.
Led by senior Alexis Cannon, who racked up twelve points, the Lady Lynx got off to a slow start. The score at halftime was tied at eleven and one voice in the bleachers commented that it looked like our team was "swimming under water."
But the Lady Lynx ran out of the locker room to begin the third period, energized by a pep talk from captains Sage Kamps and Cannon. The Lincoln defense, sparked with renewed enthusiasm, held the Valley Eagles to only one point in the third quarter while increasing their own lead by a comfortable margin. The final tally, 32-18, was a welcome win for Coach Kurtis Janzen as he prepared his squad for the rigors of conference-leading Seeley Lake the next day.
The senior starters, Cannon, Kamps, Makenzie Story and Maya Whittenberg played with a controlled "blue collar" regularity, but the fans loved the drama and exuberance of the younger players Andrea LaManna, Alyvia Blotkamp, Jessica Zarske and Jaylin Lewenight, who delighted the Lincoln bleachers with dramatic defensive moves and reckless abandon.
Cannon led in rebounds with twelve, LaManna had six and Zarske had five. The last regular home basketball contest of the season is Friday, Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m. against the St. Regis Tigers.
