Friday night, Feb. 14, came up all hearts and flowers for the Lincoln Lady Lynx in their hard-fought win over the St. Regis Lady Tigers.
The first period found the Lynx outscored and even the usual leaders couldn't make a basket. The St. Regis ladies were not a tall squad, but they were strong, athletic and accurate shooters. Frustration was thick in the air on the court and in the hometown stands.
But, it was Senior Night after all and, in the end, it was the senior Lincoln ladies who saved the day. Suddenly, senior Sage Kamps started raining treys, and most of them found the net. The Lady Lynx marched into the locker room at half time one point ahead and that is as close at St. Regis ever got to regaining the lead and the momentum.
Senior Alexis Cannon earned an awesome "double double" to put sparkle into her last home performance, hitting twelve points and thirteen rebounds.
Senior Makenzie Storey used her intensity to pull down five rebounds, as did sophomore Andrea LaManna.
But, the night belonged to Kamps who lit up the stat sheet with fifteen points (including three 3's), eight rebounds, two steals and a 55 percent free throw record for the game. Alyvia Blotkamp hustled up four steals, four rebounds and two points; LaManna and Lindsey Weisner contributed two points and five rebounds each.
The varsity Lady Lynx have their mo-jo show going on the road to the District Tournament in Frenchtown, beginning Feb. 19. Coach Kurtis Janzen would like to see a big Lincoln fan club there to cheer on our winning team.
