St. Regis Tigers clobber Lynx in Friday slug fest

In some basketball games, everyone shows up testy: fans, refs and players. Friday, Feb. 14 was one of those nights.

The contest between the Lynx and the St. Regis Tigers was a knock-down physical tussle right from the first whistle, and the no-nonsense officials did their best to try and keep some sense of order in the stands and on the court. They almost succeeded.

The intense defense put three Lynx starters in foul trouble early. With Brodi Henderson, Ryan Greenwood and Trenton Grantier on the bench for much of the second half, it didn't look good for the Lincoln Lynx to overcome the 33 - 45 half time deficit. The game went downhill from there and, despite a solid fourth quarter showing by Lincoln, ended in a 79 - 103 drubbing for the Lynx.

One bright light of the night was when Athletic Director Laura Allen, held up a sign announcing to the crowd that senior stand-out Nathan Brown had surpassed the milestone of 1,600 points scored in his high school career up to that point. The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, and even the Tiger men came to Brown to shake his hand in congratulations.

High point man for the contest was Brown with 48 points, a new school record. Henderson had 13, Greenwood contributed 10.

St. Regis had their own all-star with freshman Caleb Ball who scored 39 points. Brown will be up against Ball again at the District Tournament in Frenchtown, which starts Wednesday.

The Lynx weren't too discouraged by their loss to St.Regis. They bounced back Saturday to defeat the Noxon Red Devils, 61-42, giving the team good momentum on the way to Districts.
