Kelly Samson has been doing hair for 24 years and has just opened her own salon called Hairway 200, in what used to be Hairitage House, on Highway 200 by the Post Office.
"I decided to purchase the salon when Deb moved," said Sampson, who came to Lincoln with her family three years ago and has had family in the area for 25 years. Samson's parents, Rick Foreman and Sue Murphy, are active in the American Legion. Murphy teaches dance lessons, especially for the Fireman's Ball and the Barn Dance, said Samson.
Samson started at the salon on June 10 and took over July 1. "I've been busy," she said.
This is Samson's first time owning her own salon, but previously she's worked at Dillard's and Capitol Barbershop in Helena. It's pretty similar to renting a booth, she said, "except for you don't have to maintenance the building."
Samson said not much has changed with haircuts because of COVID-19. "I've been sanitizing, sanitizing, sanitizing, but we're going to be required to wear masks all the time I think. It's fun trying to do color around masks. I have the masks and the sanitizers, so I'm set for it. As hairdressers, we sanitize everything anyway."
"Right now I'm doing haircuts, colors, perms. I'm getting a pedicure chair so I'll be doing pedicures and manicures and gel polish. I do formal up-dos, too," she said.
She currently has regular hours Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and takes appointments after hours. Once school starts, that may change, and she's potentially looking to take on a new stylist later this year.
"I'm glad that we're keeping a shop in town, because I definitely think this town needs to have a full-time shop," Samson said.
