Little Lynx shine in their debut match

The 5th and 6th grade ladies of the Little Lynx 'B' squad came out strong against the Lady Rams of Helena Christian School on Saturday.

Led by veteran standouts Kaitlyn Brown and Ashya Blythe, the Little Lady Lynx battled the Helena team to a five set tie breaker only to lose by two points in the final thrilling tie-breaker set.

"They did great and had a lot of hustle! The girls practiced their fundamentals and stayed focused," 'B' team coach Danielle Cyr said.

With no players on the relief bench and a head-to-head Lynx collision in the third set, the Lincoln gals managed to put on their game faces and push on to the final set.

Cyr said she checked out her players for possible concussions and they "looked OK." It was time to be tough.

A close contest, the final 'B' team scores were: 25-21, 21-25, 9-25, 25-22, and 16-18, showing it was a tooth-and-nail fight.

The Helena Lady Rams had a 6th grade server who could pound an overhand serve over the net that was almost un-returnable. Much to the surprise of the Lincoln fans, this same young Helena ace also played on the 'A' team 7th and 8th grade squad.

The Little Lynx do not yet have a player who can hit the over-hand serve, but Coach Cyr said they are working on that skill.

The 'A' team, anchored by Remi Dietz and Makena Copenhaver, went down to a valiant defeat three sets to one, 24-26, 25-11, 9-25 and 18-25. The 'A' team had an off night, but their positive attitudes and enjoyment in the game bode well for future success.

Lincoln school is excited to welcome new players Hailey and Anna Reinke from Whitehall and Ashay Anderson who is only a 4th grader but who plays on the 'B' team.

"I like playing volleyball and also living in Lincoln," said Anna Reinke.
