How many times can David face down Goliath on the battlefield of a high school basketball court?
"It gets harder and harder to play against opponents who are 60 pounds heavier and five inches taller than me. It's intimidating," said Lincoln Lynx guard Teegan Tybo,
When the Valley Christian Eagles filled up their bench before tip off, it was clear this contest was going to be another one of those "character building" opportunities that older people talk about, but for which no one in their right mind would volunteer. Six, mostly JV, Lynx matched up against twelve big junior and senior varsity Valley Christian boys. It was going to be another long night.
At the half, the Lynx three points looked lonely next to the 46 of Valley Christian, but then things picked up for the local fans and baskets started to fall for the Lynx. It wasn't enough to carry the day, but the teamwork and aggressiveness of the Lincoln men began to come together up until the final buzzer.
Valley Christian had three upper classmen able to can a three pointer from anywhere in the county, but the Lynx had their own shooters with Andrew Brown adding seven, Teegan Tybo and Bradley Howard with two a piece. Teegan, one half of the athletic Tybo brothers, pulled down six rebounds, caused eight turnovers and bagged two free throws. Trever Tolan grabbed six rebounds and caused four turnovers and senior Bradley Howard jumped for eight rebounds and caused six turnovers.
The Lynx may have not played up to their ability in this contest, but in the courage department they are Lincoln All Stars.
