Victor Pirates sail away from Lincoln Lynx 29 - 65 in Friday night basketball contest

The Lincoln Lynx played hard and never hung their heads in another lopsided match-up with the visiting Victor Pirates Friday.

Starting out with cold shooting, per usual, the Lynx got better as the quarters rolled by. But the home team had their hands full with junior Carson Varner from Victor, a three-sport athlete, football QB and probable all-conference forward who averages more than 20 points per game.

Encouraging the fans, Teegan Tybo let a three-point arc swish the net in the fourth quarter and Trever Tolan added to the upswing with a pair of free throws. Basketball is a game, after all, and playing the game can be fun!

Team captain Bradley Howard was the high point scorer for Lincoln with 11, followed by Teegan Tybo and Andrew Brown with six apiece. Wesson Dempster, back on the court after his injury time-off, added four points and Trever Tolan had two free throws. Tybo continued his streak, causing five turn-overs followed by Howard with four T.O.'s.

In his last home game, senior Bradley Howard was philosophical about the experience of anchoring a junior high-age team in an ocean of upperclass varsity opponents. "Well, it was good for me, it helped me to keep focused on school despite senior-itis, and all that exercise helps to work out our usual teenage frustrations."

Howard, a well-liked friendly young man who always has an encouraging word for fellow students, made it possible for the six-man Lincoln Lynx team to keep competing on the hardwood this winter after losing Freshman Wesson Dempster, who was sidelined with a broken foot. If his talented eighth and ninth grade teammates develop into a winning team in the future, they can look back and thank Howard for helping them get a good start. "Sacrifice plays" are not just in baseball.
