Methodist Church welcomes new pastor

The Lincoln Community United Methodist Church has a new pastor who provides services for the community every other Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

"I've been feeling the call to ministry my whole life," said Pastor Jason Cox, who was assigned to the Lincoln United Methodist Church three months ago. Cox travels to Lincoln from Missoula, where he was born and raised, and where he obtained his undergrad degree in religious studies from the University of Montana, with a minor in south and southeastern Asian religions. Prior to becoming a pastor, Cox was a computer programmer.

"I'm relatively young for the ministry-38," said Cox, adding, "That's kind of fun. I get to relate with all different ages. I like to stress how devoted the United Methodist Church is to inclusion. Everyone is welcome at the church and at the leadership table."

Montana is part of the Mountain Sky Conference of the United Methodist Church, and the Conference Bishop makes assignments every year for pastors to be placed in a church.

"I'll be heading off to seminary in the fall, so someone else will be taking my place," said Cox, who is pursuing his Masters of Divinity followed by a Doctorate of Ministry.

Cox notes that one of his favorite parts of services in Lincoln is the singing.

"They sound like a beautiful choir. They sing harmony just naturally. I absolutely enjoy singing the hymns up there and hearing everybody sing together," said Cox.

Beginning on Nov. 21, Cox will provide services every Sunday through the Advent season.

"I just love the Advent and Christmas seasons. They're just so much fun," said Cox.

Cox said he usually arrives at the church by 10 o'clock on Sundays and that he would love to hear from anyone who has questions or just wants to chat.

"I'm seeing new faces every week. I would love to see anyone and everyone there," said Cox, whose email is [email protected].
