Jr. High Lynx Hoopsters Triumph Over P-Burg

The Friday home court Lynx win over Granite County might have been called "slice & dice" or "run and gun" by Coach Blubaugh, but when the final buzzer sounded, the result was a 53 - 22 rout over the Philipsburg Prospectors junior high men by the young Little Lynx.

The Lynx led the contest from the first basket, leaving the Prospectors in the dust at half time 36 - 10. "Big and Tall" power ball was played by the three heavy hitters: Kayden Tybo, Roegun Dietz and Josh Rios, although Rios' body slamming defense might have looked like football to the uninitiated. Basketball is, after all, a contact sport!

Six-foot tall Roegun Dietz is still growing into his feet, but his arms do double duty shooting and preventing shots from P-burg. High scorer was Kayden Tybo with 25 points, four fouls and superb ball handling skills. Dietz and Tybo are eighth graders, hoping for varsity spots on the bench when the big fellows start their season next month.

Junior high school is a period in life when not everyone has seen their growth spurt yet, and the long and short of it was Roegun Dietz at 6-feet and Elijah Barnett at 4-feet,10-inches, a two foot differential. But what he lacked in altitude, Barnett made up in attitude, defending his lane with gusto and grit, earning a foul along the way.

Dietz closed out the books with 18 points and two fouls, Rios had ten points and three fouls but avoided sending any opponent to the doctor.

This team has a great future, maturing skills and awesome poise. And soon, the "Big and Tall" club may have some new members in Jaxon Meeks, Wyatt Kirby and Mark Arthur. They grow fast in junior high!
