Lady Lynx junior high gals split ticket with Drummond

On Saturday morning, January 15th, the Junior High Lady Lynx B-Team came out strong and defeated the B-Team Drummond Lady Trojans on the Lincoln hard woods 11 - 4. The young Lincoln B-Team, made up of 4th, 5th and 6th graders, played a powerful game highlighting the skills they learned last year at many of their out-of-state summer basketball camps.

Kaya Butterfield was the high scorer with four also using her height as an impenetrable defensive weapon. Kaitlyn Brown played aggressively, charging down the court with her dribble, stealing the ball whenever possible and adding three points to the score.

Gone are the days of tentative passes and timid drives. Aaliyah Lesh and Alyvia Rios added to the score with two points each to seal the win.

The older A-Team of 7th and 8th grade ladies had an  exhausting ordeal against the more numerous Lady Trojan squad.

To field a complete team,   Lincoln needed the assistance of Brown and Hailey Smith, 6th graders bumped up after the early game. These two young ladies had already run their hearts out but they had to step up to the plate again for another 90 minutes of rough play with the older teams.

The final tally, 31 – 46, was a close one point apart in the second quarter, but the deep bench of the Lady Trojans eventually wore down the tired Lady Lynx and Drummond  spurted to a big lead. Jordyn Zarske, Remi Dietz and Hailey Smith were all in foul trouble in the second half which inhibited their attacks and eventually led to Dietz fouling out with five minutes left.

Top scorer was Dietz with eight followed by Smith with seven points, Zarske with six and Brown with five. Accurate shooting from the free throw line was demonstrated by Brown (3), Smith (3) and Maddi Davis (1).

Lincoln fans were overheard muttering about fouls against the Lynx not called by the refs but that happens to most teams now and then.

The  aggressive play of our young team showed the opponents that these gals have a wild lynx tooth-n-claw determination!
