Community Garden plans Open Meeting and Mini-Class

The Lincoln Community Garden has scheduled an open meeting for garden members and individuals interested in gardening on Tuesday, April 26. The gathering will be at Valler Coffee that evening at 5 p.m.

The garden board invites all members of the garden and individuals interested in gardening to come hear what the organization has planned for the gardening season, and to participate in a mini class on "Companion Planting."

The garden, which was created in 2011 and had their first growing season in 2012, has been home to community members who have been learning how to grow and how to have extended growing seasons in the mountain-environment of Lincoln.

In recent years, the garden has gone through some hefty repairs, including a new water pump and some electrical issues in the greenhouse. Community Garden members recently formed a board and applied for their 501c3 non-profit status. They are looking forward to using that status to apply for and obtain some grants for repairs and renovation to the garden space and greenhouse.

The April 26 event is open to the public and the garden board encourages anyone interested in the garden or companion planting to attend. They plan to have additional classes open to the public throughout the gardening season.

All indoor plots at the garden have been rented for the season, but there is plenty of space outdoors to create additional garden beds.

Anyone interested in more information, becoming a member or providing a donation to the organization can reach the garden board via email at: [email protected].
