Jr Hi Lady Lynx edged out by Drummond Trojans

The Drummond Lady Trojans came to Lincoln on Sept. 10 to face the Lincoln junior high Lady Lynx volleyball squad. After a five-set slug fest, the Drummond Trojan wooden horse had captured the cats by two points in the fifth set. So close, but no cigar.

Playing with strength and confidence, Lincoln battled hard and the result was up in the air until the very end: 23-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23 and 15-17. Coaches Dani Fry and Cailey DenBoer had a nice bench of middle school ladies who knew their stuff and the whole team contributed to the effort.

With powerful overhand serves, Kaya Butterfield had six serving aces, Jordyn Zarske had four and Remi Dietz had two. Zarske has a varsity-style jump serve that rockets the volleyball an inch over the net into the opponent's court, making it almost impossible to return. Hailey Smith demonstrated a classic net save to rescue a point in the second set and she made most of her serving points with a unique and individual "Giant Circle" serving style. Presley Vogl, a 5th grader, is developing the skills of the older gals and really pulled her weight with lots of playing time.

In a Saturday home game with the Helena Christian Lady Rams on Sept. 17, the junior Lady Lynx were easily in the driver's seat, cruising to a 25-13, 25-8, 15-5 victory. Hailey Smith and Jordyn Zarske had four ace serves, Remi Deitz had five and Kaitlyn Brown had two aces.

The next home game is Friday, Sept. 23 at 4:30 p.m. against Alberton. This great team has a lot of local support so come early to get a seat!
