A home volleyball match against the visiting Alberton
Panthers on Friday, Sept. 23 demonstrated a shining lesson in compassion and sportsmanship to the young ladies from the Clark Fork Valley.
Winning in three quick sets, 25-17; 25-23; 25-22; the Lynx gals and their coaches showed the crowd what a class act they are by subbing in all their new 5th and 6th grade players in the second and third sets, giving the inexperienced junior high Panthers a chance to even the score and be competitive. In the cut-throat world of prep school sports, fans don't get to see this true altruistic sportsmanship very often. If ever.
The Lady Panthers had a full bench of hitters, but their skill set was not on the same planet at the Lady Little Lynx with their rocket over-hand serves and accurate volleys. Queen of Aces was Jordyn Zarske with nine unreturnable serves, followed by the always-reliable ace-makers Remi Dietz, Hailey Smith, Kaitlyn Brown and Ash Blythe.
The Lincoln fans welcomed the debut of middle school players Harlie Finnell, Olivia Jarrell, Katie Gallagher, Brooklyn Hall and Ashaya Anderson playing with the older junior high Lady Lynx for the first time. It's exciting to be on a winning team but the middle school gals have a high bar to reach up to in the coming years; a high bar achieved only by hard work, dedication and sacrifice.
