There have been things happening at the Lewis & Clark Library - Lincoln Branch, and more are on the way in coming months. Please check back monthly here at the BVD for updates from the library and events being offered.
On Saturday, April 1, the Lincoln Library, through the support of the Lewis & Clark Library Foundation, brought a free program called "Painting with a Twist" to the community. Ten participants painted a Montana wildflower scene and had a great time doing it. You can visit the library to view some of those paintings in the meeting room throughout the month of April. They are looking to do another program in the future, so make sure to watch their Facebook page. There will be more information in the BVD as it gets underway.
This week, the library invites you to the Lincoln Community Social where people can meet the Lewis & Clark Library director, John Finn and find out more about other programs and offerings from the library.
Other upcoming events for April and May include Storytime, a Bookmobile visit and the Summer Reading Program.
Storytime has returned at the Lincoln branch Thursdays at 11:15 a.m. Lewis and Clark Library storytimes model how adults can sing, talk, read, write and play with children to develop early literacy skills such as recognizing and identifying sounds, exploring letters, and building foundational knowledge.
This summer, if you're in Helena, you can check out Storytime in the Parks, where story time will occur at a different park every Thursday at 10a.m. Please visit the library website at http://www.lclibrary.com for more information on this, and other library-hosted events.
On May 22, the Bookmobile will be visiting the Lincoln School. Students will be able to walk through the bookmobile and have stories read to them. While parked at the school, the community is also invited to stop by, say hello and browse for their favorite read.
The Summer Reading Program will run June 1 through July 31. This year's theme, "All Together Now," will focus on kindness, friendship, and unity, with unique art by Frank Morrison. There are many benefits to participating in a summer reading program. For many youth, it encourages life-long reading habits and prevents summer learning loss. It's also been shown to help children maintain their reading skills over the summer while participating from anywhere. It also provides an alternative summer activity. The program is open to people of all ages; however activities are geared towards the younger audience. More information will be released soon about the program and activities.
The Lincoln branch is also seeking input from the community on programming. If you have an idea or would like to share your ideas with them about a program you would like to see brought to Lincoln, please contact them.
Additionally, the library has computers and internet available to the public for use. The community room is also available for public meetings and gatherings. Contact the library at 406-362-4300 to make reservations or find out more about their services and upcoming programs or just stop by and say hello. Eleanor and her staff are always available during library hours to assist patrons with book searches and can reserve books for folks through the Montana Shared Library.
