Easter Eggstravaganza

Hooper Park once again found itself awash in brightly colored plastic eggs on Easter Sunday as Lincoln Volunteer Fire Rescue once again hosted their annual Easter Egg Hunt March 31.

For about an hour, kids ranging in age from Pre-K through sixth grade scoured areas designated by their grade level. For the youngest kids it was a scramble to gather eggs scattered around the main oval at the park, while kids from second grade oan up scattered hither and thither as they searched among the tree, stumps and campsites to fill their baskets, buckets and bags.

Lincoln Fire chief Zach Muse said they scattered about 4000 eggs this year, filled with some $900 worth of candy and prizes. He said turnout for the annual event was good, although other easter egg hunts going on in the county may have cut into it a bit as people tried to catch the other ones.

"We've had more; we've had less. There was just a lot of other stuff going on. But it's nice not having three foot of snow out here, so we could really spread it out. It took longer just because of that."

This yuear the firefighters got a hand from the ladies at the Lincoln Baptist Church to fill the eggs they used . Diane??? supplied several hundred new eggs for the hunt, which proved to ba erelief to the ladies since they dident; have to spend extra time trying to match the top[s and bottoms of various differtnet sized platic eggs.

A note about the Firemans Ball

The Easter Eggg Hunt came only a week after the annual Lincoln Fireman's Ball held aty the community Hall March 23.

Muse said this year's event was well organized and flowed realy well, helped in part by the fact they started it half an hour earlier than they have in the past. He also said the turnout was definitely better than last year, even with the wintry weather.

Although he won;t know the final tally until all the bills are paid, Muse expects the Fire company will net close around $18,000. He said he was surprised at how much some of the auction items went for.

The proceeds from this years ball will help the fire company build out a new wildland fire engin
